Let me tell you what you can expect while your first visit to my studio for semi permanent makeup appointment. As I take my clients very individually and I believe every treatment can be crucial for you I take your health as a priority. From my over 5 years of experience, I always start with a medical questionnaire which includes all necessary information about semi permanent makeup in general. The guide on what to avoid and all pre-advice I send to you via email or message, so you can be prepared and know what to expect and how long the treatment can take. As much as you’re looking forward to your new look, worries about discomfort, about the end result and about the skills of your practitioner can make even the bravest person a little nervous.
Although when you already have a first appointment booked and you visit me for the purpose to underline your natural beauty. I start with basic consultation which I believe is extremely important to know all about your health and ask you what you wish to receive at the end to meet your expectations. I always have to ask you about:
- Heart conditions, as a blood infection could make you seriously ill
- Blood diseases
- Diabetes, as this can slow the healing process
- Allergies to latex, metals and other substances
- Skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis and other issues
- Haemophilia and other circulatory disorders
- Any medications or treatments you’re currently receiving
- If you’re pregnant or nursing a baby at this time
I know, you can say wow this is like doctor’s appointment and I just need to get a bit of color on my face. Yes, I totally understand your point. At the same time, I want to explain to you further why I do it and this is why I have to write today this article to open your eyes in case you have done it before but without any consultation. All these questions may seem a bit scary but really they are just designed to make sure permanent makeup is a suitable treatment for you. If you do suffer from any of these issues, it doesn’t necessarily mean we will not treat you, only that we will be well prepared before we do. Please bare in your mind the semi permanent makeup is not a tattoo, so it will stay on your skin much shorter time (approx 2-3 years) but still it will appear on your face so is one of the most important parts of the body and you don’t want to hide after your treatment.
However, the main point of your consultation is to ensure we get your semi permanent make up exactly right for you.
The first thing I do is assess your skin undertones, to ensure you use the best pigment for your skin type. Most people have either warm or cool undertones, which lends them to looking best in red or blue-based colors. Your personal preference comes into it too, of course, but as an experienced PMU practitioner, I will give you our professional advice on which colours will look best on you.
Next, I would love to discuss your preferences and ask you if you have any idea what type of the pmu you saw it already and wish to have. Of course, I am here to guide you but also to meet your expectations and make this service as a great experience so you will be happy with your new permanent makeup. Once I got your idea of your style I welcome you to the treatment room where I will pre-draw your permanent makeup with some sketches and show you my idea of the color as well. During this time I will also explain your healing process so you can understand it better. Once you are happy with your planned shape, color and density, we’ll move on to starting the treatment.
Once you’re ready to go ahead, we’ll apply an anaesthetic to the area which is going to be treated. This takes around 20 minutes to work, during which time you can feel a slight scratching needle on your skin and warmness-a totally normal feeling while the anaesthetic starts working in the skin. After few minutes your skin will be totally numbed and you don’t feel any uncomfortable touch, only focusing on machine vibration and music- is a very relaxing time so I always asked my clients to turn off the phone sound so they can relax fully.
The treatments take from 1,5 hrs to 2,5 hrs, depending on what you’re having done while I pre-draw your semi permanent makeup, input anaesthetic, make before photos for you to see the beautiful difference after the procedure, input adequate pigment into your skin and make photos after.
After your treatment
I will give you full aftercare instructions to take home with you, as well as a soothing balm (in case of lips) or eyedrops (in case of eyeliner), so that you know how to look after your treatment over the coming days. Immediately following treatment your body will form a small scab over the treated area, but after two weeks this should naturally fall off and be replaced by new skin.
The process of new skin growth and healing of the area can affect the colour and shape of the treated area. For this reason, I will ask you to return to the clinic for a touch-up around 4 – 8 weeks after your procedure. The retouch appointment will be shorter than the main appointment, and will simply be filling in or recolouring where your body has altered our work.
